Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MA DPH) reports confirmed COVID-19 cases nightly. MA DPH includes the number of the cumulative number of tests administered per day.
How many COVID-19 tests are completed per day in Massachusetts? The total number of tests per day has plateaued since March 24th. Since March 24th, the total number of tests peaked at 6,354 tests completed Friday, April 3rd, and a low two days latter of 3,237 completed on Sunday, April 5th. From March 24th to April 7th, Massachusetts has averaged a total of 4,912 COVID-19 tests per day.
From March 24th to April 7th, the total number of cases confirmed each day has increased while the total number of tests administered has stayed relatively constant.
Since March 24th, the proportion test results that are positive for COVID 19 has more than tripled. Currently, the range is between 20-30% of Massachusetts tests are positive for COVID 19.
Notes:
From March 18th to 22nd positive test results were being reported daily from some labs without the number of tests administered. The cumulative total number of tests conducted by these labs were reported on March 23rd. The proportional results above isolated for this variable after March 23rd these labs reported their case totals per day and the total tests per day and are included.
March 16th is the first day where the MA DPH reported the cumulative total number of tests. March 17th is the first day that tests administered per day can be determined.

The Cape Cod Foghorn 
On the March 22nd report from the state it mentions that the number of tests includes patients that have been re-tested. Do you know if the subsequent test statistics include re-tests? If re-tests are included then the ratio of positive results would be impacted.

Looking at past reports, March 16th is the first day with the notion that the results include individuals who were retested and March 22nd is the last. I think after the 22nd we can assume that the totals include those that are retested. One of the issues with MA DPH reports is that their reporting changes over time. Yesterday April 8th is the first day when they started reporting Race/Ethnicity. You’ve got me wondering about how many are retested and what that cohort looks like. In addition to outside patients, medical workers, in particular, come to mind.
